This is the second year of a project to produce improved APV vaccines. The novel approach is to first completely sequence the APV genome, and then use the information to produce an infectious clone suitable for a vaccine. This is the only proposal utilizing this cutting edge approach toward generating an APV vaccine that has both reduced virulence and high morbidity to allow safe use of "seeder" bird vaccinations.
The long-term goal of our research program is to generate an easily administered vaccine capable of inducing a protective immune response in birds.
